My dad is still not doing well. We are staying in shifts around the clock and monitoring his care. It is a pressure-cooker of a situation. I am so thankful that we have friends that are sharing their experiences with us. It is extremely encouraging.
While I was visiting dad in the hospital, I was jotting down some notes for the A Team (the next family team that will come in the morning.) We leave notes for each other so that when the next team gets to the hospital they know what's going on. But I digress. I was using a borrowed pen and it brought something to mind. I love pens.
I really have a thing for pens. I think I have always enjoyed pens. I like all colors, shapes, inks, grips, gels, fountain, caligraphy pens, paint pens, ink pens, and the list goes on. The one thing I have recently discovered during one of my "pen"sive moments, was I like to take pens. I don't think of it as stealing them... I just use one of them, discover that I love it, and somehow it finds its way into my purse.
After this happened a couple of times, I realized I had a problem. So, I decided that before I could take a pen, I had to leave a favorite one in its place. It had to cost me something. After awhile my conscience began to bother me, so I decided that I had to ask before I took one and I had to offer to leave a pen before I could take a pen. But most of the time the suckers.... oops, did I type that?? I meant to say most of the time "people" will just let me have the pens.
I have collected so many pens that I have favorites ones for different things. Some are better at cards, some better with notepaper. Some are great for labeling big things while some are better at the smaller ones. I have one that is great for checks and one that I just love because its colorful. I have a big purple one from Taylor's very first doctor's visit. I have a green one from the hospital where Eva was born. I have a purple CJBanks pen that I wanted to steal real bad but I confessed to my boss just so I would have some accountability! She gave me that pen as a gift when I moved back to IN. While we laughed until we cried, it dawned on me that I had a problem but I didn't think they had PA meetings! (Pen's Anonymous)
I guess we each have our faults....my just happens to be pen-envy. I have confessed my problem and I have found ways to get pens in an honest and thoughtful way. The next step is to slowly give my pens away without sticking newer, cooler ones in my purse!
BTW: My sister now works at a doctor's office and OMGosh, she gets GREAT drug pens. She has one that has a flashlight, a red laser light, a pen and a stylus all at a flick of a button. It is sooo cool. I think I could trade her, cause she would be the one to notice if I just took it. RATS.

AWESOME (and I, too, have a pen thing. I'm just not brave enough to take them, even with asking first.
while I don't love pens, I do have several cool ones. If I were to send them your way would that be P.E. ? Pen Enabling?
Yes... dear Jude. I think it would be! But a true friend would WANT to give her friend a cool pen, right? As a sign of friendship? right? Is is sparkley? Purple? huh? is it? huh?
Would that make it a "Penship"? Waca Waca Waca
What was it the eliza Doolittle said to Henry Higgins? "Just you wait!"
