The picture is of Dante's Inferno. The reason I have included it in my post this evening is because our Starbuck's group was discussing the following question: Do I have the right to judge if someone is going to Hell?
Needless to say, that question sparked some serious discussion. Many shared their thoughts of people or of themselves that have been the object of well-meaning Christians who have felt the need to speak the truth with the compassion and sublety of a baseball bat. When you have been hit by a baseball bat, you tend to never want to experience it again. Many non-christians feel the same way about discussing religion with christians. That's a crying shame!!! We should know better. No matter how well intentioned we may be, we should NEVER wield our righteous indignation as a shield and then slam people with the sword of truth. I don't think the spiritual armor Paul was referring to was meant to be used in such a judgemental and off-putting manner.
Now, having said that.... I should state that the group really had some interesting comments, observations, and suggestions. I love this group! We have non-believers, new christians, old christians, an elder or two, a preacher, a pentecostal youth pastor, a couple of college students, some young adults and some older adults. We are all over the place!! And I love it. We have diverse opinions, open discussion, conflicts, passion, and all of us come together because #1) we love to read, and #2) we love to talk! So, I am two for two.
Well, enough of that. Onward.
Today was a good day at work. I got a lot acccomplished, all my tasks completed, I talked to my daughter, a good friend, another good friend, a couple of weirdos, and my TOT. She talked to me about my kitty, Gabby. She sounded so excited and she is still calling me "Na" (a- as in apple)which I find utterly adorable. I know she will soon change and start calling me Nana... but for now, I melt every time I hear, "Hi, Na!" That little voice just grabs my heart and won't let go.
Speaking of voices that grab your heart and won't let go, this is for the women readers. Have you ever heard anything more sexy than a southern guy callin' you darlin'??? Well, even if they don't mean anything romantic by it at all, whew! It's still a girl-getter that's for sure. A poor ol Northern guy doesn't stand a chance against that. It's almost like the line in Jerry McGuire, "You had me at hello." Cheesiest line in all movie-dom, but still you have to quote it. (Well, the line from Titanic is close: "I'll never let go Jack, I'll never let go!" Yeah sure.... ..... she did though. AND let him drown. sheesh.)
I have to draw this post to a close. After working all day, going to visit dad, driving all the way back across the city and then add another 15 more minutes, chatting with the *$ group, driving back home 15 minutes... I am finally at home and winding down. I have about 30 minutes left before I turn into a pumpkin. (Random thought) 18 more days until Indiana. If you want to know just exactly how excited I am about going.... read my daughter's blog. I think she has captured the feelings down to a T. (She is good that way.) unsinkablekristen.blogspot.com
For all my friends, near and far, I am praying for you all tonight. I miss you. I am thrilled that you have come to join me for a few minutes out of your day and I pray that tomorrow is a good day for you as well. My dear SIL - Dana said that reading this blog was like stopping by my house for a coke and a chat. That had to be one of the kindest things she has ever said about me. If any of you are ever in the neighborhood, remember that you have a standing invitation to come over and have a coke and a chat.
Have a good evening and dream good dreams.
