Denial Is Not a River in Egypt

Tonight I am feeling my age. I used to be able to stay up all night long and all the next day without once feeling tired, grumpy or mean. Did I mention "used to?" Well readers... age is upon me. The Queen is no longer the last one to go to sleep at a slumber party and is no longer the last one to quit talking. (oh good, lightening didn't strike)

I believe that I have finally reached the stage where I cherish a good night's sleep only because I really need it. Draggin my sorry bootie out of bed, blindly stumbling into the shower, not enjoyable...at all. Plus, I don't enjoy getting to work and finding out that when I drssed that morning, I put on one blue shoe and one black shoe. I have found that sleep is important to straight driving, matching clothes and shoes, correctly spelled emails to your boss, filing A under A not K and many other work-related faux paus.

However, with age comes denial. We all deny that we are getting older because we keep challenging ourselves. "Oh, I can do it! Watch this!" And my favorite..."it won't bother me...I've done it thousands of times before." The next thing you know we are staying up til one in the morning, or bungee jumping off bridges, or we break out the old jogging shoes and hit the streets expecting to run like we did in high school. Yeah, I see you shaking your heads... we all know how we feel the next day. We can hardly drag our sorry butts out of bed because every muscle in our bodies feel like they weigh 5000 pounds. We wince, whine, and cry all the way to the Lazy Boy, vowing never to do that again. Or at least walk the next time. Can I hear an "amen?"

I am young at heart and that makes me forget that I'm not young in body. I yearn for one more moment out of the day, but my poor head is saying, "enough already... go to bed." So, dear reader, I am going to listen to my head for a change and go to bed. If it's late where you are.... go to bed.

Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

I am hearing you sister, I try to stay up and watch the movie that I just can't miss, or the book that I just can't put down, and morning whacks me like a bad Soprano.
