Mini Vacation

Well, Royal Readers, you can thank my co-worker "V" for this post. She called my extension at work and asked me, "So. How's this vacation thing goin' for ya?" I wasn't quite sure what she was talking about because I AM going on another quick vacation this weekend to TX to see my Tot and to celebrate Little David's first birthday. (Remind me to tell you about this vacation..... boy - did I do something silly.) OK. So. "V" really wanted to know about the blog-vacation. You see, she checks it out when things run slow and she was a tad concerned that I might take a really LONG vacation and then she wouldn't have anything to read. Later on in the conversation she said some gracious and complimentary things about some of the posts but I am just too humble to repeat them. (As The Unsinkable says, "Humility is my best trait!")

So, I have dubbed this my "mini" vacation.

As I mentioned, I am going to Texas this weekend. After coming back from Indiana, I have hit the ground running. I don't think I have been home long enough to actually buy groceries and put them in the frig. I have been working, visiting dad, teaching, book-talking, and even with a day off for memorial day, I have been busy. Which is why when my daughter called and told me she was really excited about Friday, I asked her "Why? What are you doing?" To which she replied, "Picking you up at the airport!!!??" You could hear the DUH dripping off of each syllable.
Now I am usually one of the sharp knives in the drawer, but today .... today, I think I was a bit dull. I totally had forgotten about the trip. I mean REALLY forgotten about the trip. I had to think a minute, WHAT was she talking about? Then it hit me. May is almost over and I am going to Texas on Friday to celebrate Little David's birthday. Holy Schnikes, Batman.... I might have missed the plane if she hadn't said something. Well, with a suaveness born from years of motherhood, AND without blinking an eye I replied, "But of course you are dear! I am so excited too! I can't wait." Whew. I really think she bought it. I mean I really think she believed me. (except that now if she reads my blog..... I am busted.)

I am headed for Ft. Worth on Friday evening and I am returning Monday evening. I can't wait. I hear that there may even be an opening in the clouds and we'll have some sunshine for a day. I know they will enjoy that. Kristen has been telling me all about the storms that have passed through Texas. I wonder if some people have begun building an ark? Are animals wandering in two by two?

I have tomorrow evening to pack and get things ready. There has been an ongoing saga about my washer/dryer envy. I do not have a set and I find doing my laundry to be a BIG FAT PAIN IN MY BACK SIDE. Normally, I don't mind, but ever since I moved into an apartment that does not have one, I am finding it to be less than enjoyable. Since I have this trip coming up in 48 hours, I will have to carve out some time to do it. It totally chaps my hide. I would rather eat tomatoes (my arch enemy) or even ......... sorry, I really don't think I would eat a tomato instead of doing my laundry. I lied. I would rather toss those suckers right off my deck and run to the nearest laundry mat than to actually have to eat a tomato. I guess laundry is not so bad after all.
I'm sure all of you are wishing that I had stay away on vacation a little longer. Maybe you were hoping for a more spiritual post, or perhaps a story about my kitties. A Tot saga or two. Maybe a flashback in time to when The Queen was a hip, young girl.... and could remember when she was going on vacation! Well, loyal, royal readers, I will sleep on it tonight and see if the mini vacation cleared the cobwebs, chased the bats from the belfrey, or better yet, got the train back on track.

We shall see.
