Sunday Musings

Good morning. I am out on my deck enjoying the wonderful morning. I am listening to Big Daddy Weave's cd called Every Time I Breathe. (It's great) I have my hot coffee beside me. My cats are fed, my birds are fed, my plants are watered, and I am contemplating breakfast. Possibly some yogart, or eggs and english muffin, or cereal with fresh berries and milk. I haven't quite decided.

I am listening to the cicadas and they are just singing away. You can hear the birds and squirrels too. My woods are full of sights and sounds which I absolutely love! It is the one thing I love about my apartment. It is restful out here and I love the feeling of being high up in the trees which is so different from being on the ground. I feel like I am right in the middle of all their activity and I am "allowed" to watch. I have a bird's nest in one of my chairs which has 5 speckled eggs in it. The momma bird was sitting on the nest this morning when I went out to water my flowers. She just hunkered down in the nest and watched me. Yesterday, she had gone out searching for food, most likely, and I was able to see the eggs. They are white with tiny red spots on them. At first I thought it was a woodpecker nest, but now I think it's a finch nest. The momma doesn't look like the woodpeckers that live around here.

I am going to read my bible this morning while I am on the deck. I have been reading other books lately and I have been missing my bible. It's funny how a book can begin to wind it's way into your heart. I love my bible and I enjoy reading out of it. Many people say that it is too hard to understand. I would agree to some extent, but- don't give up. There are 66 books within the bible and there is a book for everyone. Some books maybe harder than others, and that's ok- it's what makes it so appealing to me. Everything you need to know is in it. While it doesn't spell it out like a "Book for Dummies," it does give you stories of real people, in real situations, with real consequences. It doesn't dress things up with neatly-wrapped happy endings. Some lives are tragically ruined by their choices, others have lives that are noticed by God and he blesses them because of their faithfulness. Some had been given longer life, (Hezekiah) some had been given a family (Abraham, Hannah, Ruth), some were given positions of power (Moses, Joseph), some were given material wealth (Job), some were given an army to lead (King David), some grew prideful and lost their position of power (King Saul). One was depressed and was going to commit suicide (Elijah), one was ridiculed (Elisha) one felt a burden for a nation (Jeremiah), and the list goes on and on.

God graciously shows us the good, the bad, and the ugly side of people. Nothing is hidden. (David & Bathsheba is a good example) We see how choices changed the course of their lives, how faithfulness was rewarded, and how listening to God might not seem easy at the beginning.... but He has a reason behind what is done. Daniel and his friends dealth with a lion's den, a fiery furnace, religious persecution, and a king demanding answers to dreams or death and as a result the king believed in God and allowed the Jewish people to continue to worship God.

There is just so much that I could go on and on. It surprises me when people tell me that the bible isn't relevant to today's problems. It simple tells me that they haven't read their bible lately, or maybe they need to find someone to discuss the sciptures with them. The bible is a book that is meant to be discussed.... so if you need someone to discuss it with you, contact me. I would be happy to do so.

Anyway, the morning is lazily drifting away and I have to get moving. I think one more cup of coffee and a couple more chapters are in store for me before I leave the solitude of my deck.

Have a wonderful Lord's day. Do something good for someone today. Think about how God has blessed you and share it with someone. They may need the encouragement and you may need the faith-building encouragement that comes from sharing what the Lord has done for you.
He is a good and might God. Amen.
