Reassurance, Melt Downs and Training

What a wild week! Unsinkable and her family are doing very well, so much so that Nana was able to leave and feel quite comfortable with the way things were going. When Taylor was born, K was a new mother and needed the reassurance that what she was doing was correct. She needed questions answered. David was born two years later and she wanted reassurance that she could handle two kids at the same time. (Which she did – quite well) Then little Allison arrived and she really didn’t need any reassurance. She had her parenting, nursing, diapering, mothering skills down pat. All she really needed was sleep. (Can I hear an Amen from all the mothers out there?)

While at Unsinkable’s house, I got some great grandkid time! One day blessed me with being able to witness a classic 4 year old melt-down complete with her saying to her mommy, “Well, Miss Kristen, I am so, so mad at you right now. I am going to slam my door on you! Yes! I’m slamming the door because I am mad at you.” (slams door and then yells through the door) “I slammed it and I am mad at you!” Needless to say, there was some ‘discussion’ about attitude and the way you obey the first time. It was one of those moments where you are just so impressed with the brazenness of the child that you just can’t wait to see how the parent is going to handle it.

Handling things seems to be the theme this week. Little David is still trying to get the potty training thing down. His sister informed me that, “Bubba isn’t poop-trained yet.” But . . . Bubba is motivated – his daddy said that he could get the Batman Castle if he can remember to get to the potty on time (before the Big Event actually occurs). Every time he felt something he stopped, gasped, and said “I wanna a Batman Castle – I gotta put poops in the toywet!” Then you could hear him run to the bathroom and heave a big sigh of relief. “I get my Batman Castle- yea!”

Yeah, fun times! (wink) I think Unsinkable’s family will be just fine.

If Bubba doesn't get the Batman Castle, there's always a FishMan Bat House!

Great wisdom from someone who just turned 50!

Amen to the sleep!
The melt down sounds JUST like Kristen...not from her childhood because I didn't know her then, but I can just hear Kristen's voice in Taylor's words! ;)

THe poop thing...We are trying to night train Gavin, he is doing GREAT during the day, but Peyton is struggling during the day and night...we have started a chart and once they get to X number of day, Gavin gets a Spiderman outfit and a Spiderman backpack...(different reward for day and different for night) and Peyton gets something Disney Princess and a Tinkerbell backpack...Needless to say, we have been doing this for a week and a half...Gavin is almost halfway there and Peyton only has 3 days...0 nights! :( This part of parenting I DON'T LIKE!!!!!! Any great suggestions? Peyton is 4 1/2...she just gets busy playing...we have done the timer, we have done everything!
