Crepe Myrtles

Iowa grows many wonderful things but they do not grow plants that are sensitive to cold weather. One of Tim’s relatives had not heard of crepe myrtles and it dawned on me that I had never heard of one either until I lived in the south.

I discovered that the name is actually "crape" myrtle but some use "crepe" because the flowers have a crinkled tissue paper look. The crepe myrtle's flowers appear in mid-summer and last until frost.

I thought I would post some pictures of the local crepe myrtles in our little city in Texas so that Tim's Iowa relatives can see just how pretty they are.

These pictures were taken by my friend, Vickie T. Enjoy.
