I love Starbucks. I know there are those out there that will disagree with me, but I love it. I enjoy going in and smelling the coffee while the sound of music wraps around me. I love it. I can't wait to get my coffee, sit down and enjoy a conversation with a friend. I can even go in by myself and read if I want. I feel cool. Yeah, when you're older, feeling cool is something you don't feel very often. So I enjoy it while I can! LOL. Pretty soon "feeling cool" will be because of my blood thinner medicine not because I am "hip." (wink)
But for now, I will enjoy my feeling of coolness while I drink my hot beverage.

I also feel supremely cool when I go to Starbucks. I also feel smarter and more urbane.
I really need to go there more.
Cynthia,
Feeling cool is part of Starbucks appeal. It is the reason it can charge $3 for a cup of coffee. What you are paying for is an experience--music, atmosphere, hipness. This is what makes it such a great place for outreach. When people are in this kind of interesting but relaxed atmosphere, they are more likely to not only come, but talk more openly.
Of course, your coolness doesn't come from Starbucks, but from being a child of God, right? We would love you even in a Quick Trip (which has very good coffee by the way, but I never wanted to hang out there).
awwww James, would they love me in a box? Would they love me in cool socks? Would they love me here or there? Would they love me anywhere, like Quik Trip? Only Dr. Suess would know for sure. :)
You are correct, though. Coolness doesn't come from where you drink coffee... but we fool ourselves into believing it does. Dr. Suess hit it on the head when he wrote the book about the Star-Bellied Sneetches. It is the haves thinking they are better than the have-nots.
I don't think my "coolness" comes from buying expensive coffee and I don't think my "coolness" comes from hanging out just at Starbucks. I totally like the experience. I like the atmosphere, the smell, the sounds, the coffee (yes! I do like the coffee.) and if I have a friend or family member to chat with and share the experience with... then so much the better! I can talk about God or I can talk about the weather... the coffee-house just relaxes you and invites conversation. A Quik Trip makes me want to buy gas....and go to the bathroom. I'm usually in a hurry when I go there, so no.... I wouldn't want to hang out at the QT either. I'll meet you at Starbucks instead
