The Traveling Matt's

Tim and I were Traveling Matt's this weekend. We drove from Texas to KC which is normally a twelve hour trip. We usually stop at the Unsinkable's house and spend the night to 1) break up the trip and 2) hug on my Tot. We left her house on Friday so that we could spend a little time with my folks.

This weekend with them was special because it was one year ago July 3 when my dad came home from the hospital. He had been in the hospital recovering from two strokes which happened the first of March. It took him 5 months to recover enough to go home. July 3rd was Independence Day for my dad in a very big way! So, we went to celebrate his first year home. He has made a lot of progress during this time and sometimes we have to remind him because he doesn't always see it.

We didn't get to stay long and had to head back home on Sunday. Our normal 12 hour trip ended up taking 14 due to construction in OKcity. Ugh. It was almost 10 miles long.... and the good thing was we had filled up and had gone to the bathroom before we hit the congestion!! Yeah, I know! My motto when traveling is : Never....never.....never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom. Never.

We managed to stay awake during the long trip by finding an awesome oldies station in Dallas and we sang all the way home. We heard Three Dog Night, America, Fleetwood Mac, Bee Gees, Chicago, Frank Vallie, Bay City Rollers... and the hits just kept coming. It was great! As soon as we heard one we liked, I wrote it down so we could download it from Napster when we got home. We had a ball and it really made the extra long time pleasurable.

Now we are home and trying to catch up on some sleep. So far we aren't doing so good. We were knee-deep in the Lonesome Dove series and I had to find out what happened to Woodrow Call and the rest of the gang. Maybe we'll get some sleep tomorrow.
