Wednesday's Spotlight

Wednesday’s Spotlight is on another good friend, Lori Miller. Lori and I have been friends for sometime and once I moved to Kansas City… she was as close to me as a sister. One of the cool things about my relationship with her is that I like her husband as well, and we all know that often times you may like one but not the other. (You’ll read about Lori’s husband in a future Spotlight post.)

Lori and I have done many things together: shopped, prayed, cried, laughed, grieved, spurred each other on, crafted, gone to concerts, movies, vacations, gospel meetings, and on and on and on. She has always been forthright and honest with me even if she thought it might not be an easy thing to do. I admire her courage and her willingness to do the hard thing AND the right thing in every way she can. We have often shared our thoughts about spiritual issues and many times we agreed and some of the times we didn’t. But it never mattered because we knew that we were still friends even though we both knew I was always right. (hehehehehe.) Seriously though, it is very important to have a friend that you know will shoot straight with you no matter what.

My favorite memories of Lori are legion; however one stands out like a beacon in the night. There were four of us chatting around my folk’s kitchen table after a bible study. (My folks were on vacation and not at home during this conversation) My sister and I were commenting on how much mom wanted to redecorate her kitchen but dad liked things the way they were. While everyone was getting ready to leave, we congregated around a small piece of wallpaper that was lifting off of the wall. Miss L notice this and she commented on how it would be really easy to strip it off and in a blink of an eye she had YANKED a piece off the wall!!!!!! We all gasped in shock and I whispered “Holy Crap!” Then promptly covered my mouth and stared at my sister. We all just stood there staring at the wallpaper. We stared at each other. We stared back at the wallpaper. And then we all grabbed corners and within 15 minutes – we stripped the kitchen bare. That was the beginning of our new business, “The Christian Strippers!” (wink) We had exactly 4 days to redecorate the kitchen before the folks returned from their vacation. It was VERY dicey but we did it. My dad’s only comment to Lori was, “I hope you know a very good attorney!” Thank goodness she’s married to one. (hehehe)

I miss Lori very much. I suppose she will just have to bribe her Sooner-lovin’ husband to travel to the Great State for a visit. Anyway, Miss Lori – you’re the best “adopted” sister a girl could hand-pick for herself.
