Favorite Things / Simple Things

It is Saturday and you all know what that means! Yes, I am doing all my favorite things that I want to do.... I choose to do them with a purpose. I look back with no regrets. I fill up the day as I choose. I love that about Saturdays! I am multitasking for an hour this morning before I jump into my day. This kindof defeats the purpose of relaxing on this beautiful morning, but it is how things roll today. I am out on the deck (lovin' it!) and have read two chapters in Simple Church (loving it too!), on my second cup of coffee (yes, really loving it!) and now am posting about the day's events and thoughts (always enjoy it) while listening to Big Daddy Weave on cd. It is what my dad would call "Good Day." He is my example of simplicity.

Simplicity is something that greatly appeals to me. I like simple pleasures. I like simple processes. I like to streamline my home and make the cleaning and care simple. I want to simplifiy bill paying, my job process, my clutter...everything. I like it simple. (I messed up with my cats.... they are NOT simple to groom. hehehe But I love them regardless.) So, it's no wonder that I was drawn to a book called Simple Church.

The book Simple Church is about churches around the country that have rid themselves of all the trappings that have complicated the process of simply connecting people to God, connecting people in study, connecting people to service, and then connecting them to outreach. It is simple. God, Grow, Service, Share. It is a simple process. We humans tend to muck it up, as we do most things. The Jews did it with the laws.

God gave one law. Don't eat of the tree. Man mucked it up. Then God gave ten commandments. Man mucked it up.... he decided the ten laws needed explained and now the Jews have over 600 laws that define the 10 God gave them. (Wow! Man really mucked it up.) Look at our laws just in the United States alone, would we say we have a simple legal system?? Ha, we laugh at that statement, don't we? But, I digress...... simple is the point.

I have found that this book is insightful in its ability to lay out several churches as examples of how a church can focus on what really matters when all the extra stuff is peeled away. The important stuff is what remains. You are allowed to focus on knowing God, knowing others, serving others, then sharing that with others. It is very simple.

As I go through my day, I pray that I will find ways to laugh, share, serve, and live with purpose. Today is a gift and I don't want to waste it. I do want to enjoy it!!!! Yea Saturday!!!

Enjoy it today, my friends. :)

ps. Hootie: love the name change and I know that you are going to do it proud.
